Silver Bullet | Ceramic High-Z 200KΩ poker-chip (gain)
The Silver Bullet Ceramic | High-Z 200KΩ (with volume control) use a modified stainless/polymer poker-chip as a fascia. Apart from the novelty factor this creates an exceptionally nice looking and ruggedly constructed custom bullet-mic that is one of the smallest performance harmonica microphones on the market.
This is a very high impedance ceramic mic that provides a sharper sound texture with a bit more treble. The mic has a lovely clean harmonic content also with headroom for distortion straight out of the box. The element uses the same old technology as the original crystal microphones from the 50′s but with the benefit of durability. It’s a clean sound but when you cup it firmly, and with a little help from the amplifier, you can get some very tasty, creamy overdrive without the annoying mid-range honk you get from a lot of microphones. The Ceramic high-Z mic can also be used with affect pedals. The ceramic High-Z needs to be matched to a very high (ideally =/> 2M Ω) impedance sockets on your amplifier; normally labelled as passive and designed for non-active piezo pickups.
Tomlin Leckie, a well-known UK harmonica player and teacher, describes the sound as: ” ..you can get some very tasty creamy overdrive without the annoying mid-range honk you get from a lot of microphones. So, you can really cover all the bases..”.
The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is smaller than a Marine Band and fits neatly in your hand and pocket. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. Another nice detail is the rubber around the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.
The mic’ is very light in your hand and is easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. The volume knob is small and very firm which means you are not going to accidentally twist it in the middle of a particularly enthusiastic harmonica solo. The sensitive volume control provides you with excellent control to boost your output or control feedback.
The mic’ connects to a valve or solid state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket.
This Ceramic Silver Bullet harp mic’ is truly an awesome microphone with technology and craftsmanship that delivers a compact design with many of the features a harmonica player wants and needs and is very technique sensitive.
Fit a larger gain knob on to your Silver Bullet harmonica microphone (push fit) to increase grip and control during performance.
