Midi Silver Bullet Ceramic | High-Z 200KΩ (no gain)
The Midi Silver Bullet Ceramic | High-Z 200KΩ (no gain) is one of the smallest and lightest harmonica microphones available. Perfect for entry level amplified harmonica playing or advanced playing – if you fancy a small bullet mic that delivers performance. The compromise of a mic without gain control is that you will need to use your amplifier to control any feedback issues and rely on the amp or playing technique to vary your volume through a performance. A preference from some pros!
This is a very high impedance ceramic mic that provides a sharper sound texture with a bit more treble. The mic has a lovely clean harmonic content also with headroom for distortion straight out of the box. The element uses the same old technology as the original crystal microphones from the 50′s but with the benefit of durability. It’s a clean sound but when you cup it firmly, and with a little help from the amplifier, you can get some very tasty, creamy overdrive without the annoying mid-range honk you get from a lot of microphones. The Ceramic high-Z mic can also be used with affect pedals. The ceramic High-Z needs to be matched to a very high (ideally =/> 2M Ω) impedance sockets on your amplifier; normally labelled as passive and designed for non-active piezo pickups.
The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is smaller than a Marine Band and fits neatly in your hand and pocket. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. Another nice detail is the rubber around the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly, it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.
The mic’ is very light in your hand and is easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. Use the amp volume control to boost your output or control feedback or to increase gain for distortion effect. Like all silverfish harp mic’s, the unit can be stand-mounted and fits snugly in most small (fitting a 30mm barrel) microphone holders. The mic’ connects to a valve or solid state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket.
This Ceramic Silver Bullet harp mic’ is truly an awesome microphone with technology and craftsmanship that delivers a really compact design and is very technique sensitive.
