Silver Bullet Dynamic | Low-Z (poker-chip/gain)
address>The Silver Bullet Dynamic | Low-Z (with volume control) use a modified stainless/polymer poker-chip as a fascia. Apart from the novelty factor this creates an exceptionally nice looking and ruggedly constructed custom bullet-mic that is one of the smallest performance harmonica microphones on the market.
The Silverfish bullet mic has at its heart a dynamic element with a lovely rich, fat tone and harmonic content and headroom to enable you to drive the mic’ and produce a classic “blues” sound – with a little help from your amp. The mic’ is low impedance which provides a medium powered microphone that may need impedance conversion (low to high) or pre-amplification for large-venue gigging but is perfect for practice or small-venue performance straight out of the box. Depending on your rig the use of an impedance converter is recommended for maximising output and significantly boosting the power output of this microphone. For example using a Shure A85F “low to high impedance microphone-matching transformer” will provide an additional 24 dB of signal gain. Note that this will also require a mono (female) to XLR (male) converter plug to link to your microphone lead and couple (line 1 and 3 to earth) to the in-line transformer. This or similar impedance conversion is really recommended as it releases the beast in this lovely dynamic mic. Dynamic mic’s are also practically bulletproof with proven reliability.
The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is smaller than a Marine Band and fits neatly in your hand and pocket. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. Another nice detail is the rubber around the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.
The mic’ is very light in your hand and is easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. The volume knob is small with a firm movement which means you are not going to accidentally twist it in the middle of a particularly enthusiastic harmonica solo. The sensitive volume control provides you with excellent control to boost your output or control feedback.
The mic’ connects to a valve or solid state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket and suits a rig with medium and high amp impedance sockets.
This silverfish harp mic’ is truly an awesome microphone with technology and craftsmanship that delivers a compact design with many of the features a harmonica player wants and needs and is very technique sensitive.
