Midi Silver Bullet Dynamic | Low-Z (no gain)
The Midi Silver Bullet Dynamic | Low-Z (no volume control) is one of the smallest and lightest harmonica microphones available. This is a midi-sized bullet for players who prefer a bit more to grasp [compared with a Mini Silver Bullet] while performing. The mic is perfect for entry level amplified harmonica playing or advanced playing – if you fancy a really small bullet mic that delivers performance, but don’t mind boosting your output or controlling feedback through your amplifier or technique. The midi bullet provides a bit more to hold during practice and performance. The silver bullet midi fits a 30mm mic stand holder.
The Silverfish bullet mic has at its heart a dynamic element with a lovely rich, fat tone and harmonic content and headroom to enable you to drive the mic’ and produce a classic “blues” sound – with a little help from your amp. The mic’ is low impedance which provides a medium powered microphone that may need impedance conversion (low to high) or pre-amplification for large-venue gigging but is perfect for practice or small-venue performance straight out of the box. Depending on your rig the use of an impedance converter is recommended for maximising output and significantly boosting the power output of this microphone. For example using a Shure A85F “low to high impedance microphone-matching transformer” will provide an additional 24 dB of signal gain. Note that this will also require a mono (female) to XLR (male) converter plug to link to your microphone lead and couple (line 1 and 3 to earth) to the in-line transformer. This or similar impedance conversion is really recommended as it releases the beast in this lovely dynamic mic. Dynamic mic’s are also practically bulletproof with proven reliability.
The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is as long as your thumb and therefore fits neatly in your hand and pocket. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. Another nice detail is the rubber around the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.
The mic’ is extremely light in your hand and is easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. The lack of gain-control on this bullet microphone could be considered a small sacrifice to achieve a performance bullet mic of this size. The mic’ connects to a valve or solid state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket and suits a rig with medium and high amp impedance sockets.
This silverfish harp mic’ is truly an awesome microphone with technology and craftsmanship that delivers a really compact design and is very technique sensitive.
