Silver Bullet Dynamic | Special – Dirty 50KΩ/Clean 4KΩ switchable

The Silver Bullet Dynamic | Special – Dirty 50KΩ/Clean 4KΩ switchable (with volume control) is a very special and top-of the range harmonica mic that offers the ultimate in flexibility of performance characteristics. This mic is special in its look, feel, unique features and especially sound. It is probably the only harmonica mic available that offers the choice of two separate dynamic elements within the same microphone allowing a seamless switch between powerful dirty or clean sound performance. The clean and dirty sounds are both rich in tone with full harmonic content and great bass. The heavy-duty metal design, finished with a lovely dark hardwood fascia is a very nice look with a solid and robust industrial feel (there is a touch of steam-punk in its design!).

The mic offers precisely the same performance characteristics of the separate clean and dirty silver bullets but in one mic providing a neat and unique rig with the ultimate in flexibility for your amplified harmonica playing.

    Clean sounding dynamic element

The clean dynamic element has a wide frequency response with slightly lower sensitivity and as a result a higher headroom to distortion. At lower to mid gain settings this produces clear and rich low, mid and high sound without excessive treble. Alternatively, if you like a very light touch of distortion – turn up the gain on the amp and set microphone to maximum to drive the mic’, ideally used in conjunction with reverb.

    Dirty sounding dynamic element

The dirty dynamic element has a really “hot” signal that is packed with full harmonic content and great tone with perfect base and mid-sound without treble. This element has the high sensitivity with slightly lower headroom so if you like crunch distortion and a lovely dirty blues sound then simply switch to this element. Apply a touch of reverb from your amp, turn up the gain to drive the mic’ and achieve various degrees of distorted, crunchy classic “blues” harmonica sound, especially when cupped.

Both dynamic elements provide a microphone with proven reliability and are ideal for practice or gigging – blues, country or chromatic harmonica performance. This microphone is medium (4KΩ) and high (50KΩ) impedance which therefore needs to be matched to a high (500KΩ/0.5MΩ) impedance sockets on your amplifier.

The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is smaller than a Marine Band and fits neatly in your hand. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. A really nice feature of this mic is the inset rubber seal and gnarled ring at the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.

Despite there being a lot of components packed into this neat microphone – it is remarkable light in your hand and easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. The volume knob is small and very firm which means you are not going to accidentally twist it in the middle of a particularly enthusiastic harmonica solo. The sensitive volume control provides you with excellent control to boost your output, control unwanted feedback or to control levels of distortion effect. The small brass micro-switch enables silent and seamless switching between elements during your performance. The mic’ connects to a valve or solid-state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket.

This switchable dynamic mic’ is top-of- the range and special in terms of sound, feel and playability and provides precisely the same performance characteristics of the separate clean and dirty silver bullets but in one neat mic and rig.
