Silver Bullet Dynamic | Special II 50K Dirty/Lo-Fi
The Silver Bullet Dynamic | Special II 50KΩ Dirty/Lo-Fi (with volume control) is a very special and top-of the range harmonica mic. Special in its unique looks, feel, features and especially sound. The rugged, heavy-duty metal design, finished with a lovely dark hardwood fascia is a very nice look with a solid and robust industrial feel (there is a touch of steam-punk in its design!). The microphone has a really “hot” signal that is packed with full harmonic content and great tone with perfect base and mid-sound without treble. The sound is warm, responds to cupping and pressure changes and breaks up nicely. The 50KΩ offers the highest sensitivity of Silver Bullet range with slightly lower headroom so if you like crunch distortion and a lovely dirty blues sound this is the microphone to chose. Apply a touch of reverb from your amp, turn up the gain to drive the mic’ and achieve various degrees of distorted, crunchy classic “blues” harmonica sound, especially when cupped. Dynamic microphones have proven reliability and are ideal for practice or gigging – blues and country harmonica performance. This mic’ needs to be matched to a high (500KΩ/0.5MΩ) impedance sockets on your amplifier.
The microphone’s size and shape provides a durable design which is smaller than a Marine Band and fits neatly in your hand. It is a perfect size for getting a really good seal for amplified harmonica playing which is much easier than with a larger bullet mic. A really nice feature of this mic is the inset rubber seal and gnarled ring at the head of the mic’ which serves two purposes: firstly it means that the harmonica isn’t going slip out of your hands when they get sweaty (a real issue!); secondly it helps achieve a consistent airtight seal around the harmonica and microphone to get the biggest “tone” you possibly can.
The mic’ is exceptionally light in your hand and is easy to hold with a harmonica while performing so you don’t get hand cramp after a long practice or performance. The volume knob is small and very firm which means you are not going to accidentally twist it in the middle of a particularly enthusiastic harmonica solo. The sensitive volume control provides you with excellent control to boost your output or control feedback or to increase gain for added distortion effect or control unwanted feed-back issues. The mic’ connects to a valve or solid-state amplifier with a standard 1/4″ (6.3mm) guitar jack-plug socket.
The microphone is supplied with a hand-crafted leather finish that wraps tightly around the microphone. The “black leather” wrap is now provided as standard for the “Special Silver Bullet Microphones” (Special I, II and III or Switchable) unless you specify clearly a preference for “rubber” or “gun-metal blue/grey” leather at the point of sale. The leather is a nice finishing touch for your microphone that reflects the artisan craftsmanship of the mic while providing some additional grip, seal and protection.
